Hands-On Medicine is an Integrative Osteopathic Medical Practice. This makes us unique in the field of Integrative and Osteopathic Medicine, as in addition to Osteopathic Manual Therapy (OMT), which in it of itself is considered by some as alternative medicine, we specialize in incorporating a variety of different healing modalities customized to the individual as is inculcated with Integrative Medicine. At the same time, with our extensive experience in a variety of different traditional fields of medicine, comprehensive medical care can truly be customized to the individual. With this background of knowledge, emergence of our philosophy takes shape.
At Hands-On Medicine our medical philosophy is of trying to maintain health in a natural and preventive way. Although we refrain from using medications and/or botanicals on a regular basis, our approach stems from the concern that medications/botanicals can alter the normal physiology or at times have unforeseen side effects. However, at times they may be recommended where they would be needed to help certain individuals.
Similarly, we hesitate to refer patients for surgery or other invasive procedures unless it is felt that there is no alternative. This is primarily due to surgery/ invasive procedures potentially being fraught with complications, not only with the actual surgery but, also with the sedatives required for the surgery/ procedures. However, after stating the above, where it is felt that there doesn’t seem to be an alternative or that the patient will have a significant benefit with minimal risk, we will at times suggest medications/botanicals and/or surgery/ procedures.
